The students in my classroom are those with intellectual and developmental disabilities who come from all kinds of backgrounds, families, and home lives.
I teach eight wonderful and unique students, ages kindergarten to second grade with disability areas ranging from Downs Syndrome, Autism, Intellectual Disability, Emotional Disturbance and so on, in a self-contained environment, as much as my students learn everyday, I learn from them even more!
I grew up attending this school district and spent my entire high school career volunteering in our high school unit for students with multiple disabilities. I knew this was what I was meant to do.
My Project
These kitchen supplies will enhance life-long learning in my classroom immensely. Not only will my students gain functional skills, but safety skills in the kitchen as well. So many of my students ultimate goals include how to live independently, and knowing kitchen and cooking skills are such a huge part of that!
With this kitchen equipment, my students will have a brand new opportunity to learn important skills and safety in the kitchen.
Being able to use oven mitts, talk about when equipment is hot, how we treat equipment, how we clean kitchen equipment are all such important skills that can grow with my students life long!
