Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income school district which was heavily flooded by Hurricane Harvey and Imelda many of my students face several challenges both in and out of the class. These last 2 years alone we have had to face challenges of COVID-19, but also evacuate and close school for Hurricane Laura and Delta. Kindergarten is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count. Our group loves hands on learning activities. My students are vibrant, courageous, and are the future leaders of America. My students smile every morning and are always ready to learn something new. They keep me on my toes. With the help of donors we can repair and gain where we lost. My kids deserve it!

My Project

The heart behind this project is to have more organization so we can all achieve success! Everyone knows that you cannot learn in a dirty/cluttered environment and I am here to make this a clean and thriving space.

My students are already so very excited to help clean and organize my classroom, it has become one of their favorite jobs.

With this long bench, I will put it in front of my classroom, so I may sit on it to read and teach each lesson. The baskets will help my kids put away our books from the library and keep us organized so the books do not bend and tear. The filing box will help me keep all of their papers and important documents filed and neat so it is easily accessible.

I love showing my students how to be organized and how having a functional space will really help you in the long run. I hope that this has demonstrated how I can truly use these items to help my students succeed. Seeing the excitement in their eyes when we get new items is unlike anything I have witnessed before. I love teaching these excited Kindergarteners!
