I work with a group of very hardworking third graders who continuously persevere through life's challenges.
My students come from one of the highest percentage Title I schools in one of the largest districts in the state.
Even though they sometimes come from difficult home environments, or struggle in school they are determined to give school their best. Our classroom has become their second home and a world where they know they can learn, grow, and work towards any goal they set for themselves.
Imagine a classroom environment where every students' needs are met not just academically but through their physical learning space as well. This project will ultimately provide students with a learning space that is more suitable for collaboration and engagement. Students will have the freedom to sit in a place that best suits their needs allowing them to stay more focused and engaged in their learning.
Student collaboration and creativity should not be hindered by a desk and a chair.
Our classroom desks have already been replaced with tables to promote collaboration. As we continue to move forward into a fully flexible classroom we will be swapping out our chairs for more functional flexible options. I have requested wobble stools, and balance balls to help promote student choice in seating that works best for them. I look forward to seeing the positive transformation in student learning, collaboration, and overall culture through this flexible seating opportunity.
