I have just started my first year as the PK-12 counselor after teaching for 22 years. I am very excited to not just have 20 kids but have 350 plus kids. I want these kids to get to know their counselor and what I can do for them.
I love using literature to teach.
Kids of all ages love literature. I want to be able to bring literature into my guidance lessons. There are so many books that I can take into the elementary classrooms that can teach life principles, positive self concept, and bully prevention.
Our kids at my Elementary school are great kids, but I want to help make them even better!
My Project
These books will help make guidance lessons fun and come to life for the elementary age children I visit. Sometimes as a counselor I deal with some difficult topics and being able to use literature will lighten the mood. Children respond to literature more often than when just being talked to. Being able to imagine themselves as a character in a book can take the fear or hurt away for some. A book can be a child's safe place to go. As the counselor I want to be able to take that child away from the fear and the hurt and take them to a happy place.
