My Students
If I had to choose only one word to describe my students, it would be joyful. The students in my classroom are thoughtful, inquisitive, and enthusiastic. They are artists, architects, performers, scientists, authors, and so much more!
Kindergarten is a year of exploration and discovery.
There is so much to learn, even in the simplest of things! We encourage and celebrate questions of all kinds, and work together to find the answers! You don’t have to look hard to find the joy in our classroom!
My Project
I have seen first hand how Michael Heggerty's phonics curriculum has a direct impact on students. The skills they acquire from this daily phonemic awareness practice provide the necessary foundational skills for reading and writing.
The major benefit of this book is that it provides the same structure and practice for all 180 days of the school year.
Once the students learn the rhythm and routine, their phonemic awareness increases tenfold, resulting in great improvements in their reading and writing.
I will also be able to improve my practices as an educator, sharing the effectiveness of these strategies with my colleagues and administrators.
We do several literacy activities daily with partner classrooms using iPads. Having headphone splitters will allow students to focus without the outside noise of other students working.
