Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class includes 25 students from diverse backgrounds. In our class, we share ideas and build relationships to help each other in the classroom and beyond. My students show they can work together as a group by saying kind words and encouraging each other with positive statements. Today, I overheard one boy tell his classmate "I like your way of counting. I'm going to try it that way".
Accountable talk is important in our classroom for both Math and Language Arts.
It helps students learn, reflect on their learning and communicate their understanding with one another.
My Project
Math has gone beyond adding 2+2. My students need hands on manipulatives to create projects and collaborate with each other to learn workplace skills. My active 2nd graders enjoy using their hands to construct buildings and are thrilled to put magnetic pieces together in a thousand different ways. The students are engaged and discover new ways to build items.
Math manipulatives including math bingo, magnetic tiles and construction sets are easy ways to explore and learn.
When children use materials in a physical way, they learn differently than when they sit and listen. Hands on learning is an important part of our classroom curriculum.
