I teach Special Education in a low-income rural area, where 72% of students receive free or reduced lunches. My students are very creative and active. Many of them love to draw and work with hands-on materials. They love to move, many enjoy music and learning about nature, as well as technology and community helpers.
My students work hard as they learn new things and complete challenging tasks.
Many of my students are hands-on and visual learners. They love to interact with others and are working hard to become stronger readers, writers, scientists, and mathematicians.
My Project
The items I have chosen for this project include literacy manipulatives, such as letter cubes and reading rods and literacy games, such as Pop blends, and CVC Bingo. The math items include manipulatives such as dinosaur sorts and several games including Head Full of Numbers, Cool Monkey Balance, and Clumsy Theif, as well as Word Problem cards.
The math and literacy resources in this project will provide more of a variety for my students as they work to build their skills.
The materials are both fun and engaging, allowing students to learn the skills they need, while having fun. The manipulatives are also hands-on, which means my students can learn not only by sight, but by touch and movement as well. These materials will help us to add more variety to our lessons, and increase our learning.
