Everyone loves doing "the robot" but talking like a robot is not as cool. Help my students become more fluent readers by engaging them in activities to help them become stronger readers.
My classroom is filled with 30 highly motivated, loving students, who have a thirst for knowledge that cannot be matched.
They live in a high poverty area of Northern New Jersey and receive free or reduced lunch and free breakfast. Our school is a Blue Ribbon School with the collaboration of students, staff, and parents. Many of the families are struggling to make ends meet but make sure that their children are in school every day. They love to read and although they don't have many books at home, love to come to school and have thousands of books available to them! They may be economically challenged, but they don't let that get in the way of getting an education.
My Project
My students love to hear reading and participate in reading. They love to practice reading to become better readers. I envision my students using these activities in centers and small groups to practice reading together. They will be able to learn how to read more fluently and practice their newly found fluency with each other.
Reading with fluency is a vital part of being a successful reader.
In the primary grades this is a tough skill to master. With engaging listening activities as well as readers theater scripts, this can be a fun and exciting skill to learn.
