This is my first year teaching first grade at GPS. I am so excited to start this new adventure. My goal is to help close the achievement gap by including games and materials that will capture their passion for learning.
Our school has a high poverty and transient rate.
We will have new students come and go on a regular basis. With that being said, it is my responsibility to pass on the skills and love of reading in hopes of creating life-long learners. Even though my students do not have much at home, the continuity and presence of an adult and structure in a classroom help establish the concept of learning and interacting in a classroom. I am trying to incorporate different materials into my classroom to make learning fun.
My students need wobble chairs, and balance balls to help get their wiggles out, while still learning and having fun! My students also need reading and writing centers, math centers and science STEM kits to enhance learning.
My Project
Our first grade classroom needs a wide variety of materials to help keep learning engaging and fun! These center activities will give my students opportunities to learn and practice in addition and subtraction, fun Stem Station activities, reading and writing, all while using flex seating!
Students who have the ability to work with another student and explain their thinking when it comes to problem solving are more likely to be come strong, successful learners.
The math stations will help students become better mathematicians, and the reading/writing centers will help us become better readers.
They enjoy learning through various hands-on projects and centers that are fun and exciting. It is very important for all students in my class to learn at their developmental level. Each student makes great strides in learning each year. Their success is the reason that I teach.
