Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students all have special needs and live in poverty. They needs sensory support with manipulatives in the classroom. They love doing arts and crafts, where they can practice using their fine motor skills and learn to focus for an extended period of time. The majority of them have difficulty communicating their wants and needs. Many of them also have trouble handling scissors and writing tools. My students need help learning how to hold scissors- and most would benefit with specialized scissors that have spring hinges or other modifications.
My students also need tools in the class to support a language rich environment so that they can learn how to speak and practice using language and sentence stems that have been taught to them.
My students and their families struggle and I need help providing basic school supplies and fun things for them to do while they learn. All materials purchased will help my students have more fun projects to do in my classroom.
My Project
Scissors and other manipulatives will help promote fine motor skills. They will be of high interest to my students. They will be used daily to help promote language because are objects are fun to play with and high interest to my students. They will also use fine motor practice will help them with learning to write they progress in school.
These materials will help my students by giving them fun things to do to practice using their fingers: from cutting paper to playing with sand to manipulating blocks.
They will inspire my students to work together and foster peer relations.
