My students need games about money, a book about counting coins, a cash register and play money to help them understand the concept of spending and saving money.
My students are all English language learners who work hard and try their best. They are very motivated to learn and love to be active and try new things. One hundred percent of the students I teach live in poverty. Oftentimes my students will not have the same experiences or opportunities as their English-speaking peers. My students would love to have more opportunities to learn and grow.
My students are hard workers, yet face daily challenges of having limited resources readily available.
I want to do all I can to provide experiences for my students to become financially literate.
My Project
Learning to be financially literate is a powerful gift! I want my students to understand the value of money and what it means to work hard, save, and help others by donating to charity.
My students will use the money games, cash register, and play money to help them learn about spending and saving.
These items will also help them with learning about counting coins and making change. The games, cash register, and money will allow my students to engage in play where they will get real life experiences. As my students are all English language learners, I want to give them more opportunities to practice communicating with others and using their math skills to learn more about money. My students also need work on learning the names of coins and their value and these games will help them learn in more meaningful, memorable ways. The book about counting coins will allow my students to practice counting coins using different scenarios from the book.
