My Students
I teach 5th grade science at a rural Oklahoma school. There are 107 students per day who come through my classroom. We love learning by investigating. Any time we can put the textbooks aside and learn by doing, it is a success.
Student achievement is enhanced so much when students dig into a project and get their "hands dirty".
I love to introduce these students to ideas and possibilities that get them excited about learning. We enjoy discovering new things together daily.
My Project
How exciting and fun it would be to learn to use a dichotomous key with actual realistic models of sea turtles. This project would bring using a dichotomous key off the page of a textbook or worksheet, and allow the students to hold a model in their hands!
Having these realistic models would take our learning to the next level.
This activity would also encourage team team building, as students work in groups to identify sea turtles. Students are a lot more engaged with lessons when they are able to touch and feel the assignment rather than reading about it in a textbook.
