My Students

We have a morning class and an afternoon class of 16 lively preschoolers. Ours is an early childhood special education class housed in a public elementary school. Through constructive play, fine motor activities, and lots of language fun, we build on their strengths and abilities.

Despite any disabilities, these children come to school with their own special abilities to be discovered.

They love to move, sing, and explore. 50% of our class is comprised of children with autism. We focus on their potential and work to find creative ways to help them navigate their environment.

Now our students are learning from home. I am conducting Zoom lessons and Zoom read alouds. My preschoolers are at home with many distractions from the lessons. I do not have access to the interactive materials that usually I use in the classroom. This makes keeping attention on the lesson or story difficult for active preschoolers.

My students would benefit from a variety of classroom resources to help increase their success in our newly established distance learning activities. As of March 17th, our school has been closed and will be closed for the remainder of the school year.

My Project

I never imagined that I would find myself teaching remotely from home, and that my students would be learning by watching me via a Zoom meeting. We are handling the changes and looking at it as a new adventure!

The whiteboard easel included in this project would serve as a tool that I can use during Zoom meetings to go over material easily, and to display story props.

This will make handling being videoed, holding a book and using props so much easier to teach. The storytelling kits, puppets and other materials included in this project will make story time fun and interactive.
