Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are full of life and very eager to learn! They come in every day eat a free breakfast and enter our classroom with hugs, high fives, or handshakes. We strive to make everyone smile throughout the day. My students have 2 classroom teachers a day because we are departmentalized. They have a math and science teacher, and me their reading and writing teacher! My students attend a title one school in Charlotte, NC. The school is located in a neighborhood community called Hidden Valley. Our community is very diverse and over half of our population speaks English as their second language. My students love learning and don't ever want to leave school.
My Project
My students' brains are always working! Their favorite part of the day is our center time. They are working on things on their level in the order their brain wants to do it. Students are allowed to sit where they please during these 45 minutes.
They immediately go to three places in my room.
The stability ball (yes I have one), the circle chair, and the rocking chair. I have had to teach them fairness and taking turns in sitting at these special spots.
We do have time spend at our desks but the best work gets done when they are able to fidget, bounce, balance, and be a kid!
My classroom is in need of more flexible seating options. I have requested several new stability balls, wobble stools, wobble cushions, and swivel boards. This will allow all of my students the ability to have a working place of their choice. Children like choices too!
