My school is very diverse. We are located in a rural area, but our student population is composed of a mixture of rural and urban students. My school has a high percentage of students with special needs and English language learners. In addition, the majority of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. In addition, my school's health budget has been cut by 60 to 70% over the past few years. Although this has helped lower student fees, it has also greatly limited the amount of equipment our PE department has been able to purchase. This equipment allows us to teach activities that are crucial in bridging the gap between learning and understanding, especially due to the high percentage of English language learners and students with special needs. I believe my students deserve the best education possible and being able to purchase new equipment would allow our PE department to add new and diverse activities for students. This new equipment can aid in my students finding activities and sports that they enjoy participating in that will lead to them being physically active throughout their lives.
My Project
Students desperately need a diverse number of fun experiences in physical education that help positively shape their attitudes and perspectives towards being physically active, while also developing healthy social and communication skills. This equipment will allow our PE teachers and department to expand our curriculum and provide new and exciting experiences for students, along with helping reach a very diverse range of learners in the process!
