This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I strive daily to have an engaging classroom that keeps my students involved and excited to learn. I am at a great school with a variety of demographics of families, although the majority is in low-income families. We are a Title I school and although we have resources, it just never seems to be enough. When I send home homework, maybe two or three students return their work. They explain they don't have pencils, glue, or scissors to be able to complete the assignments. Or oftentimes, they'll say their siblings destroyed their homework. They have to take care of their siblings, stay with a caretaker until late hours in the evening, or just are not encouraged to work on their academics. When coming to school, many look forward to the consistency, love, and care they get while learning each day. The students love to engage with each other, even if it's while learning. They thrive but also need breaks throughout the day to keep their minds focused. As the year continues, I'll continue to learn each of their needs, their ways of learning, and what benefits them to help excel in their learning.
My Project
It is imperative that students get a mental break, especially after a little over a year away from the physical educational environment. But, it is also imperative that students learn to ease off of screen time. I want to make sure that students work on their social skills and also build on strategic and critical thinking skills!
By helping me with my project, I am hoping to be able to accomplish both goals; I want my students to be able to have an enriching, engaging mental breaks that help stimulate their brains and build on strategic and critical thinking skills.
Students will enjoy learning and breaking away from their daily educational environment.
