Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in my classroom begins with Language Arts and Writing. We break for lunch and then resume with Math. In addition, we have some time to learn about Science and Social Studies. Scholastic News and Science magazines would be a great way to fulfill this requirement since we have no other materials.
The majority of my students come from immigrant families and live at the poverty level.
Teachers can not rely on parents to help subsidize additional materials.
Our students are required to wear uniforms and are mostly always well behaved and eager to learn about their world. Since most of my students do not have a computer with Internet at home, Scholastic News and Science magazines can bring a part of the world to them with their colorful, real life stories.
My Project
Our students can read these Scholastic News and Science magazines to help develop their reading and comprehension of informational text. They will then answer a variety of questions for either group work, homework or whole class discussion. It is important for them to develop these skills so that they can do well on the new Common Core PARCC testing next spring.
Please donate to my project for Scholastic News and Science magazine so that I can enrich my student's knowledge of the world today while developing skill required.
I have spent a tremendous amount of my own money throughout the years, but just can not do so at this time. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
