Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher at a Title I school located in a low socioeconomic area in Florida. I have 18 students in my classroom and 90 percent are English as Second language learners. 100 percent of students received free breakfast and lunch.
Some students have been relocated from Puerto Rico due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria.
I also have students coming from different countries and they are living with friends or family members other than their parents. My students are great and they are very eager to learn. Let’s support them! Thank you.
My Project
After receiving new students from Puerto Rico I would like to implement new literacy centers and innovating chairs in the classroom to make their new learning experience more exciting. I plan to use this wobble chairs in their computer center. Research shows that students can concentrate better when they’re allowed to fidget and these awesome chairs will allow students to rock in their seats.
To help my students succed academically I should combine ordinary reading and writing lessons with kinesthetic activities.
The reading and writing resource materials will help my students develop foundational reading skills such as identifying letter sounds, identifying syllables in words, rhyming, also build sentences and write stories. Students will use these resources in collaborative groups and independent work. Let’s provide this students the tools they need for this adventure!
