My Students
My students are all heart! Most of my students come from low-income households and are appreciative of EVERYTHING. They especially love STEM bins and projects that I have incorporated into our classroom.
We have been working hard on the 4 C's all year-critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.
We have also spent a lot of time reflecting on mistakes and building upon our successes (no matter how big or small!).
Ideally, my long-term goal is to take my class' love of STEM to create a Makerspace & STEM area for all the students in our school to enjoy-with First Grade leading the way!
My Project
My students struggle with traditional pencil-and-paper work. However, I have found an area where ALL of my students shine-STEM! Throughout the year, I have added STEM bins with challenges inside that students may solve if they finish work early or during recess. These bins are my students' favorite activity to do. Each day they rush to use the materials inside to create something new.
Having new STEM materials for my students to plan, design, and create would be life-changing for them.
These materials would be used daily to foster a love of learning and problem-solving in all students. It's amazing how much STEM can boost a child's self-confidence. I have seen my most struggling students shine (and I mean shine!) all because of their STEM successes. My biggest challenge is trying to get the STEM materials my students need into their hands.
