Each student brings a wonderful diversity to my classroom. Our school is not a Title One school, however more than 1/3 of the population is from a low-income family. These students deserve a classroom environment that promotes different tools to keep them engaged in their learning daily. These students also need a flexible seating arrangement which allows them to sit and study they way that is fitting to there needs. Each student has a different learning style and comfort need. Some students can sit for long periods of time, some like to stand, others prefer to sit on the ground, while others may need to stand. The student being able to have a choice of how to sit and interactive with other makes them more engaged in the classroom.
My Project
Student lap desks, comfy chairs, and wobble cushions will help students be more engaged in our classrooms. Different options of seating allow students with a choice and voice of where they will learn the best in the room. It will also help them become more engaged in their learning, and communicate, as well as, collaborate better with their peers. These different seating options will create a sense of community within the classroom, due to having to implement rules of sharing. Flexible seating allows students to move within the classroom, and helps with students sensory issues by helping them become more focused. Plus, it is fun to be able to sit in different kinds of seats at school!
