Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Health and Physical Education Teacher assigned to teach in a High School setting. My students ,in this inner City school, are multi-cultural students from grades 10-12. Our curriculum in Health/Physical Education includes; Personal Fitness, games and activities, Aquatic and personal safety are also included.
In order to teach these units effectively, we need the proper equipment for the students to practice safety procedures, measuring, and fitness evaluations.
Pedometers, BMI calabers CPR masks, fins, snorkels, aqua-aerobic equipment and materials to make first aid kits and bandages are examples of essential items. Special equipment; like BMI meters, pedometers and other fitness instruments, also enhance the understanding and learning experience for each student.
My Project
Overall fitness encompasses learning how to assess, monitor and safely exercise your body progress. This also means being able to recognized and assist in an emergency situation, if your health should fail- in any environment.
Using the "Fitness Gram" (as Physical Education Resource) is a great assessment tool for fitness.
American Red Cross has great programs for Aquatic Fitness and Swimming Safety. First, you must be able to assess your overall fitness. Next, create and implement a plan to stay healthy. Lastly, learning when and how to use safety equipment, both on land and in water, will aid in a lifetime of living well.
