Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In the news there are constant reports about obesity in children. As part of the required state curriculum teachers are required to teach PE at least 120 minutes every two weeks. Teaching PE is hard to accomplish when you do not have any materials to use.
I teach 3rd grade at Valle Vista Elementary school. My school is in a lower economic area. We have 53% of students receiving free or reduced lunch. With all the recent budge cuts, there has not been any extra money to buy PE instructional equipment and PE equipment for the students to use to increase their physical activity.
As a teacher, I would like to provide training, games and activities to help my students get and stay acitve. If the PE equipment is available I will be able to teach basic skills all students should be taught. Some activities I would like to teach is baseball or softball, floor hockey, basketball, and volleyball. I would also like my students to be able to play basic games such as pin guard or kickball. I would like to work on agility and movement. To do this I need to have music and videos to use to teach these skills. With the donation of PE equipment my students will have the opportunity to get a good introduction to physical fitness and sports.
