Do you remember getting hooked on a series of books as a child? Think of the anticipation and excitement you felt waiting for and then finally reading the prized next installment in your favorite series. Our students share that excitement and joy of waiting for and then finally devouring the newest books in their favorite series. Our students are inquisitive readers who are ready to discover the newest adventures in their favorite book series.
It is important for our students to see themselves in the diverse books they read.
This project will benefit all three 2nd grade classrooms at our school. We teach at a low-income, Title I school, in a rural area where poverty is high and resources are low. Our students are avid readers and enthusiastic learners. As English language learners, books are so important to our students and are truly valued. Our classroom libraries are an essential resource for our students. In addition to enjoying these books at school, students are able to take them home to enjoy. There is a buzz about books and an excitement for reading in our school.
My Project
This project will benefit all three 2nd grade classrooms at our school. These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classrooms that we strive to create. Our classroom libraries are a place that students really enjoy. Every student book that is placed in our classrooms is treated with love and care, and students are thankful for the opportunities to read.
All of these books have been chosen with our students in mind-focusing both on books that are appropriate for their reading level and feature diverse characters.
Each book is a part of a different series helping to support students with their study of character development and traits. With these new books, our students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help our students grow stronger in reading. Our students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
