My Students

My first graders are so creative and energetic! They need to continue to use that creativity to express themselves. They love to draw pictures with their writing. They use their marker boards constantly to answer questions and to work out their math problems.

My students primarily come from public housing.

They are eager and willing learners. Although they are from a high-poverty, urban setting, they have tons of energy and creativity. Our building is older, our classrooms are small, and our supplies are limited. We try our hardest with the materials that we do have.

My Project

With crayons, markers, and dry-erase markers, we will be able to continue to demonstrate our creativity daily. Having ample supplies means we aren't digging through a bucket of used crayons for a "red" crayon to finish our picture. It would also mean that when it is time for marker boards, my students would not have to share markers. They do such a nice job now with sharing and helping one another. I want to encourage their creativity.

This will enable my students to do more work independently.

It will eliminate the time now used waiting for a marker, looking for a crayon, or trying to find the last person who had one that worked.
