Our students are inquisitive, social, and full of energy! Although they are part of a small, one elementary school town with limited resources, they are individuals that share an eagerness to experiment, play, and learn! In our class, we come to school every day ready to try our best, to face our challenges, and to grow our minds, hearts, and bodies!
These enthusiastic 7 year old students encourage us to make everyday an adventure that helps them to become more independent as they grow as learners.
Part of a pilot co-taught classroom, some require specialized small group instruction, some are typical, but ALL are worth our efforts to create an environment that fosters a more active, engaged, and cooperative community.
My Project
Flexible seating is critical to learning and it is FUN-damental for meeting the needs of all learners! Learning environments can have a direct impact on student achievement, so creating a student-centered classroom with seating choices, encourages them to find their best spot to stay calm, focused, and productive.
The benefits of Flexible Seating far outweigh those of traditional seating when it comes to preparing students for the real world.
The products that I have selected will help my students make seating choices that enhance their learning by providing choice to address a personal need. The wobble cushions will provide sensory stimulation for core strength and help children focus and process information. The foam matting is soft on the feet, absorbs noise and is beneficial to students who need to move while working at a "standing desk"- linking physical activity to higher academic performance and improved behavior. The stadium seats provide students with a comfortable means of working close to the floor at low level tables. The lap desks provide a means for students to work almost anywhere- emphasizing a commitment to their own learning and behavior.
Empowering students with some choice and control over their environment allows us to create a community focused on doing our best work in our own best way.
