Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have about 570 urban students who range in age from 4 to 12. They come from all different kinds of backgrounds and love art! When I come into their class, they get so excited to see what project I have planned for them. This is 45 minutes where they get to express themselves without having to worry about spelling or getting a good "grade." I love to see their faces when they complete a project and are so proud.
My Project
I've chosen Model Magic modeling clay to create 3D pumpkin projects to expose kindergarteners to coloring mixing and developing fine motor skills. Many students at this age have problems gripping pencils and putting enough pressure on the paper. This will help them develop these skills by mixing 2 colors of the clay (primary colors) to create a new color (secondary color).
The scratchboard paper I will use to expose the older students to a different media.
They will create their initials or names then use various patterns to create emphasis. They will create their own lettering style, then add patterns to background as well as lettering, but keeping in mind, that they need to make sure the letters stand out.
