My Students

Kids in my classroom are eager to learn! They especially love studying history and learning about the stories of people who made major impacts on the world. During the pandemic, our school had to switch to a modified schedule, which left little time for our social studies curriculum. Since returning to a regular schedule, I've discovered these students have a great desire to understand as much as they can about the world and the people who have changed it.

My students are wonderful kids who want to learn more about history in fun and meaningful ways.

I love their enthusiasm for social studies, and it makes me very happy to see them recognizing the impact one person can have.

My Project

In fifth grade, we focus heavily on teaching US history. One of my favorite ways to teach history is through children's literature. When students are taught history through a story, it becomes more memorable and meaningful to them. These books will allow the students to better understand what life was like for kids who lived during two major historical events - World War II and the Vietnam War.

Through these books, the students will not only strengthen their literacy skills but will also learn how these events influenced the world.

More importantly, they will see how people's choices affected history. The characters in these books lived during difficult times and faced many hardships. My hope is that my students will recognize the qualities these characters possessed that helped them endure their hardships. Because my students have dealt with the pandemic and the uncertainty it brought, I think it would be beneficial for them to understand how children in other situations dealt with uncertainty.

These books will be a powerful way for my students to study history and learn life-long lessons in the process.
