Help me give my students high interest books for our classroom library! Increasing literacy rates is reliant on children having access to books that interest them.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work with a classroom full of motivated and kind children. They are lively Pre-K scholars living in St. Paul, Minnesota. We are a school with an entirely free lunch and breakfast. It is a school that offers unique programming to fit the needs of our population. We are constantly in need of new hands-on materials to help little minds grow.
My urban Pre-K scholars are successful when they share their voice and choice!
I'm hoping to better supply my classroom for their needs.
My Project
These books will fill our classroom library with high-interest texts. These include titles we will read as a whole group and recognizable characters for the kids to read about. Half of the literacy battle is getting quality books into the hands of the pre-reader aged children. Although they may not be reading text, they are reading the pictures and familiarizing themselves with the concepts of print. The books selected include fiction and nonfiction, which will help diversify our classroom library and offer better options for my students. Our library is a favorite place, and I want to expand its potential along with my Pre-K children.
