My students attend a special education preschool in a Title I public elementary school.
They are ages three to five and all have significant developmental disabilities. Each day is a new adventure. They may have difficulties communicating, walking, seeing, hearing, and/or eating, but they are determined to defy all the odds. They amaze me every day with their determination and the progress they make. I have had students start preschool in a wheelchair at three years old and by their fifth birthday they are able to confidently walk through the halls.
Their disabilities vary, and each has unique needs. As their teacher I work hard to make sure each student has the materials and support they need to be successful. Instead of focusing on what they cannot do, we celebrate what they can!
I am requesting a Tap and Play Color changing light, Wonder Wands, and a set of Toddler Safe Sensory Table Materials for my Students.
My students are in a severe special education class and participate in school differently than typically devolving children.
They need a sensory rich environment that includes sounds, lights, and safe toys that they can touch and feel. We want to create this in a fun sensory corner. Many of my students do not participate standing up, but rather laying on their stomachs. The Tap and Play color changing light will be perfect and it can be set up on a mat and played with while a student lays on their stomach to practice supporting their head. The Wonder Wands can be explored in a wheelchair as the student practices holding and manipulating toys.
These items would make my classroom more sensory rich and fun for my students, please consider donating!
