My students need fun and flexible seating options to allow them to foster their creativity while increasing their focus. Individualizing seating options will give the students more freedom to work where they feel most comfortable.
I have an amazing group of fourth graders this year! They consist of a diverse group of kids with many different learning styles. I have learners from all cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and learning abilities. While it may seem like a large variety, put them all together and you have a perfect class!
My kids work cooperatively with their peers to help guide them on assignments and walk them through strategies to be successful.
Every student in my class knows their role and holds themselves accountable for that role, whether it be a timekeeper, a focus friend, a peer tutor, or just a cheerleader.
Despite our differences, we always strive for success, we never give up, and we know that mistakes make us better learners. We are a TEAM, and we start each day ready and eager to learn!
My Project
Flexible seating is so popular these days and I love the idea of letting my kids choose where and how to sit during classroom instruction.
Flexible seating allows students to maintain focus, therefore helping them retain information better, increases participation, and allows students to be more proactive in their learning by putting them in charge of choosing which seat best meets their needs.
We have a few seating choices in the classroom, but my students keep asking for different options. After researching various flexible seating options with my class, our favorites were yoga balls, stack stools, portable lap desks and Go Anywhere Chairs. All of these options offer students a variety of choices which will let them explore which flexible seating works best for them, allowing for more focused and engaged learning which will lead to greater student success in the classroom.
My goal as a teacher is to provide a safe and fun learning environment where I can meet all of my students' needs through engaging instruction and differentiation. Flexible seating options help to make that goal a reality!
