We are a classroom filled with eager first grade learners, however, we don't have as many classroom helpers as we need! We need productive, independent learning phonemic awareness activities to help us become the best readers we can be! We want to develop a LOVE of reading!
Our school is filled with students who have a genuine love of learning.
They arrive with smiles on their faces every single day. I can't wait to greet them each morning. However, in this day and age, most household have both parents working, so the days of classrooms filled with parent helps have fizzled away. The parents lend support where they can, but many struggle financially. My students are fortunate and most come from two parent homes, but in the past I have had at least 50% of my classroom coming from single parent homes. I want to provide the very best learning experience for my students. I have had to rely on more independent learning activities than I used to while trying to make their learning as productive and as meaningful as I can. Sometimes worksheets just aren't enough to keep them engaged and having fun. I'm searching for more interactive activities to keep them actively learning while having fun!
My Project
With the Interactive Phonemic Awareness lessons, my students will be able to work independently while I pull small groups of students for direct reading instruction. They will be engaged in phonemic awareness activities and having fun. A small group of students will work at the center while the rest of the class is working on other independent projects or reading with me. Each student will have the opportunity to rotate through the phonemic awareness activity center. They will be guided through the activity by a CD and the activity also allows them to self check their work, which will minimize the interruptions I have at my reading table.
Phonemic awareness is a huge part of becoming a productive reader.
This independent activity center will reinforce what we are learning each week and give students the opportunity to practice necessary skills. My students will work on valuable skills that will help them become readers and develop a love of reading!
