Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a first grade teacher at Hendricks Academy, located in Chicago, IL. Ninety-eight percent of our students qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. Science is a fun and exciting subject to learn in elementary school! You get to do simple experiments like creating rock forms, discovering what gravity is, growing your very own plant from a seed, and discovering what forms tornadoes and clouds! Kids learn best from hands-on experiences and they understand the concepts of science better when they can be an active part of the learning process. This is why I am requesting Science Activity Tubs from Lakeshore Learning. Seven tubs are included in the kit that explore such topics as force and motion, matter, plants, and the solar system. Tubs include many materials to conduct experiments, books to read about the topic, and writing activities to reinforce the learned concept. These tubs will create a fun and exciting learning environment for my young students to explore their world around them. Your generous donation may spark the interests in a budding scientist and set him or her on a life-long path of great discoveries!
