My students come from highly impacted environments and many have not had the opportunity or resources to gain the prerequisite skills that other kindergarteners have. To help close that gap my students attend kindergarten full day. To help keep students engaged and learning I like to give them hands on learning in all content areas. It is amazing to see the things they can imagine, the problems they can solve, and the items they can build. I would love to give them more materials to expand their creativity and imaginative play.
My Project
With Covid-19 restrictions our classes need to stay separated at recess. Our school has one small playground for lower grades that we all have to rotate through. When it is not our turn on the playground my class has to play on the blacktop without much else to play with.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic my students need active play equipment and activities to help them improve gross motor skills, fine motor skills, cooperative play, and healthy habits.
Catch-a-balls, jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, hoops, and jump ropes will improve gross and fine motor skills. The teeter poppers, hop balls, swing balls, spin seats, and stepping buckets will increase gross motor skills and improve coordination. Finding ways for students to expend energy and give their brains a break have been show to help improve classroom achievement and behavior.
