My students are a group of intelligent, curious, and outgoing second graders who are eager to learn. My students are citizens of the City of Oakland. They are members of a community with high poverty and high violent crimes. My students and their families encounter many hardships in their daily lives and in their communities. My goal, as a teacher, is to engage them in a learning environment that focuses on academics, but also encourages each student to grow as a responsible individual.
Most of my second grade students come from a bilingual background.
All are eligible for free school lunch. The parents of my students are hardworking people who spend countless hours working two or three jobs to make ends meet. The parents send their children to my class with the hope that this generation will attend college and one day have a professional career. My students have the desire to learn and the capacity to achieve greatness. With the proper tools, I know that my students will accomplish amazing things in the future.
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning, because it will allow them the opportunity to engage in valuable physical education time, in which they will learn team building skills, gross motor skills, new games, and good sportsmanship.
My students have very old and limited PE materials, so we can´t engage in meaningful PE games, because we don´t have enough supplies.
The 20 feet parachute will allow my students to play classic elementary games with these parachutes in which they will practice how to work together as a group. Students will learn how to work together to reach a common goal while having fun outside. The champions sports scoop ball set will allow students to practice their throwing, catching, and their hand-eye coordination. Two sets of the scoop balls will ensure that all of my students can participate in these games. The dodgeball set of 6 will allow my students to play different games like kickball, foursquare, and dodgeball. Students will learn how to play these new games and they will be able to use new balls instead of play with old egg shaped balls that don´t work properly. Also, my students will be able to play flag football, tag games, and other team games with the flag football set that will allow us to create teams and be able to distinguish the different teams.
These materials will make PE outside more fun and engaging, because my students will have many different games that they can learn to play and be active in many different ways while using these materials.
