My classroom is full of 25 energetic five and six year olds. They come to school each day so full of life regardless of what is happening in their home lives. They each possess a remarkable eagerness to learn and come to school so happy! It is such a pleasure to watch them grow and soak everything up!

Our school is part of the largest urban school district in Indiana, where 100% of our students receive free lunch and breakfast. For most of them school is their safe haven. Most of my students have gone through more in their short lives than you can even imagine. They deserve to come to school, put their worries aside, and learn the basic skills they will need in order to be successful later in life. I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can control their experience during the school day. My wish is to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
These students deserve to be given the best education possible! Not only do my students have tough home lives, but our classroom was created a month into school due to large class sizes. Thus after their first month of school, they had to adjust to a new teacher, classroom, and classmates and enter a room with very few age appropriate materials. With a wide range of resources, I hope to keep students excited about school! This project will help students learn basic reading, writing, and math skills that they will need to be successful throughout life. My goal is for students to love school and develop a hunger to learn.
This project will help reinforce what they are learning and will empower them to be engaged learners.
The alphabet games will help students with letter identification and letter sounds. Students can then use materials such as Unifix Letter Cubes and the CVC manipulative toy to build CVC words. The Spot It game and hundreds board will reinforce math skills like counting and identifying shapes. Students will be encouraged to explore, build, and use their creativity when use the Geostix, building blocks, and Brain Flakes. All the materials will be used in small groups and stations. Therefore, students will also be working on sharing and teamwork.
Young students need multiple opportunities to practice newly learned skills. My students need to see, touch, and manipulate objects to help comprehend and master concepts. These materials will allow them to explore and practice things such as letter identification, letter sounds, building words, and counting. Help me make learning fun and engaging for students who truly deserve it!
