My students need a Fully Loaded Maker Space Mobile Project Cart to help keep our STEM classroom organized and stocked with materials we will use through out the year.
Hello! I am the STEM teacher, and I teach children from PreK to 5th. I am looking forward to introducing the world of STEM to my students. It is so exciting to be teaching these children how to be real-world problem solvers using 21st-century skills. My students are 39% ELL. This is the first time in schools for many of these students from other countries.
I also have an ICT class for each grade and a horizon, which is an 8:1:1 program for autistic children (K to 3) as well as three 12:1:1 (K to 4).
My school is also a Title I school, which qualifies 97% of the students for free lunch based on their economic status.
My Project
This project is for a fully loaded Maker Space cart from Lakeshore. Having a cart like this will help keep our material organized and all in one place. Each grade that I teach will have to complete their own set of STEM challenges. Having these materials will not only help to complete these challenges but it will also help save time. Sometimes my students take too much time looking for resources that they are unable to complete the task. Having a cart like this where all of the materials such as cardboard pieces, tubes, and foam pieces are labeled and in one place will make a huge difference in the design process. STEM requires students to use science, technology, engineering, and math to help solve "real world" problems. Having the materials at their disposal will increase the amount of time they have to come up with proper solutions rather then taking that time to look for the materials. One challenge in particular that will benefit from these materials is building a boat. Last year because of all of the hurricanes the students had to figure out a way to safely transport a family of 5 across the flood waters. The students had to build a boat that would hold a certain amount of weight(we used gram weights), that would float, and be able to withstand high winds (industrial fan). I am excited to see how my new students will complete this task. The materials used were similar to those that are included in the cart. I know that this cart would be an amazing addition to my STEM classroom.
