My Students
I have the pleasure of teaching 24 super smart first graders. Unfortunately, my students come from a high-poverty, low socioeconomic community. Ninety-nine percent of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Despite these circumstances, my children are full of spirit and have positive attitudes about learning. They absolutely love coming to school.
These first graders come in each morning with hugs and big smiles on their faces.
They are eager to learn and love for me to teach them new things. I want to make their learning experiences as meaningful and fun as possible.
My Project
My first graders have been learning about fairy tales, and they love to create their own tales. With this project, my students will learn about key elements of fairy tales such as setting, characters, problems, and resolutions. They will also discuss themes like magic, fairies, forests, royalty, and castles.
My students will use the video camera and tripod to retell and recreate their fairy tale in modern times.
They will use the video camera to act out their modernized version of their story. The students will present their stories to the rest of the class and using the laptop, they can post their digital stories on our school web site. We may also be able to share them on parent night or plan a community storytelling event. This is a very exciting project for my students, and we can't wait to get started.
