I wish everyone reading this could come and visit my 5th grade classroom. My students LOVE learning! My students are bright, energetic, and eager to learn! We are a Title I school where all of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students are full of life with a yearning to learn.
Each student is unique and different. "Sitting still is overrated. It makes sense for the opera or for meditating, but in most classrooms and child care centers, it's given far more honor than it deserves. Children need to move." ~Tom Hunter, National Association for the Education of Young Children. Alternative seating during reading and group time would be very beneficial!
The families at my school work hard to provide the best care for their child. It is my responsibility to provide the best way to fit their learning needs. My goal is to provide comfortable seating during certain times as a reward for hard work.
My Project
Imagine walking into a classroom where all students are engaged and learning. These students have chosen seating that meets their individualized learning needs. Some students are in desks with feet bands, slightly bouncing. Others are sitting in chairs with cushions. A few students are sitting on bean bag chairs, while a couple of their classmates sit on floor lounger seats. These students are fully engaged because they are comfortable with their seating arrangements. The classroom materials are organized in storage bins. That is exactly what I am trying to do for my students!
Your donations to my project will change my classroom into a more modern setup providing my students with choice, rather than expecting all students to sit at the traditional desks with chairs.
