Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Full day preschool is packed with lots of activities and entertainment. My students and I love to fill our day with hands-on activities, exciting stories, songs, dancing and of course free choice play.
We function as a school family that is supportive and inclusive of everyone.
My classroom is made of both general education students and itinerant IEP students. My students are all at different levels of learning. A handful of my students are able to identify all the capital and lowercase letters of the entire alphabet while others are only able to recognize the first letter of their name. Through whole group and small group discussions we engage in learning together to provide an area of supportive learning for all.
My Project
We are requesting a table and pose and play families set for a designated and inviting area for their dollhouse with this table and people. Currently, the only room for our dollhouse is on a shelf out of reach of my students. They have to ask someone to get it down for them. They often are not allowed to play with this toy because there isn't room on a table for it; it shares our surfaces in our classroom. This table will allow my students to have access to their dollhouse all the time. Our dollhouse is currently without residents. The use of dolls by all students helps them develop their vocabulary through imitation of conversations.
By having this center opened full time in my classroom, my students will have the opportunity to develop their language and communication skills through play.
Children develop social skills by acting out different scenarios with the dolls. As they create scrips for their 'plays' they will expand their understanding of how people communicate. The dolls I have chosen represent all of my students in my classroom.
