Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of my students fall below the poverty line and all come from diverse linguistic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds. I teach at a full inclusion school comprised of the most enthusiastic and creative learners.
Although the school district supplies the basics for students, I am always trying to provide them with more.
I absolutely love coming to work every day and teaching. That feeling is infectious, and all of my kids are always coming to school excited to start their day ready to learn.
My Project
In addition to reading and writing, science and technology has become a vital part of our classroom learning. In kindergarten, children learn best when they are able to explore the world through play and problem solving. Play is the language of children. Right now in our classroom, we have an hour and a half of time dedicated towards play and inquiry based learning. It's the kids FAVORITE time of the day. The challenge is that my classroom is not equipped with the supplies or the budget to enhance the children's creativity, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
How can I provide the most engaging and enriching experiences for my students if I don't have the materials?
From balls and ramps to experimenting with water, children can explore tons of different STEM concepts with the materials requested. As kids build, test and experiment, they’ll develop both critical thinking and early STEM skills including weight, balance, buoyancy and more!
