I teach special needs four-year-old students in a district-based, Title I school. My students have a wide variety of needs, such as communication, social-emotional, fine and gross motor, cognitive, and behavioral. I also serve children with autism. The majority of my students come from a low-economical background. Coming to school on a regular basis is an escape where the children can play and grow while learning, strengthening their social skills, self-help skills, as well as follow a daily schedule and routine.
My Project
The majority of the items in this project are to help promote STEAM activities in our classroom. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.
Our students have become more interested and involved in planning, building, and creating projects using different materials that we currently have.
We would love to add to our resources by adding the fairy tale STEM set which will help them not only create structures and buildings, but also will help to promote problem solving, teamwork, as well as recreating and retelling familiar stories. The additional materials in the project such as the paint, construction paper, and storage containers will allow us to maintain our organization within our classroom as well as replenish commonly used materials that we quickly run out of.
