This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students in our classroom are a hard-working, bucket-filling, college-bound group of fifth graders. We affectionately call ourselves The Smithsonian Scholars. We represent the diversity of our city - we are Black, Asian, Filipino, Latino and Arabic. About 80% of our students live below or close to the poverty line. About half of our students are English language learners.
While we come from a wide range of backgrounds, we all come, connecting in our classroom to learn and grow together!
Please help us shine our brightest every day of the school year. We appreciate your considerable kindness.
My Project
As a fifth grade math and science teacher, I found the perfect rug for the center of my class. Fifth graders still like getting down on rug to complete assignments and learn, and I try to give them as many outlets and spaces for them to do so as possible.
Not only will the rug provide a comfortable spot for my students to sit together and collaborate, but the STEAM focused design motivates and excites them in the work they do!
It is just the right size for two to three students to gather and work on our class projects.
