My students are playful, creative, enthusiastic learners! These 5 to 6-year-olds come through the door ready to explore. They are the reason I have been teaching kindergarten for 29 years! I love providing opportunities and materials for students to let their imaginations soar through books, writing, art, outdoor experiences, dramatic play, music, and performance. These experiences build community within our classroom and encourage a love of learning.
Play improves self-esteem, self-confidence, critical thinking, communication, tolerance, and builds a sense of community.
Throughout the day, my students have opportunities to engage in meaningful learning and play experiences. It's so important for young learners to have opportunities to explore, discover, and play whether they are indoors or outside! Working, playing, and taking adventures together improves communication, problem solving and builds community within my classroom.
My Project
Kindergarten students love to build! By providing them with a variety of building materials, their interest and understanding of science, technology, engineering, art and math will soar. The STEAM Park will give students opportunities to build things that move! Through their play, students will plan, design and build a theme park together. The Duplo World People will give students the opportunity to interact with the park they have designed and because of their diversity, students will see themselves in the toys they are playing with. The Treehouse Imagination Builder will give my students an outdoor theme to their construction as they piece together different treehouse structures. The Summer Bridge books are math and reading take-home books for individual students I see that may need extra help over the summer.
