Beyond striving to provide the highest quality education, our school's charter is based on equipping students with the skills to serve both themselves and the community through leadership. Being a charter school allows us to open our doors to students across the valley, which has brought together and created a community that has a multitude of backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. There are several students this year who have significant medical needs, and their peers have all surrounded them with kindness, understanding, and support. This group has truly taken the leadership principles we teach to heart.
The greatest challenge our school faces is funding.
As a charter, the public support is quite different from what a traditional public school receives. As such, we are left to acquire the funds to provide many basic classroom resources ourselves. From classroom furniture to basic technology to enriching curriculum resources, I am seeking grants in hopes that they will allow me to provide students with the best possible environment and materials to pique their interest and stimulate their growth.
My Project
Math is a subject that is apart of everyday life, yet the students at our school traditionally struggle to make sense of it. The math resources I'm requesting will allow students to physically manipulate concepts that are otherwise completely abstract. The various manipulatives will enable students to gain number sense by making different models and finding alternative ways to find solutions.
The tablets I am requesting will empower students to literally take learning into their own hands.
From e-books to interactive activities, having tablets readily available for students to use in class will be a game changer. Students will be able to conduct research, document discoveries made, and collaborate with each other.
