My students need the think & learn code-a-pillars, LEGOs and other building kits to encourage problem solving, critical thinking, creativity and to be innovative.
I have a very diverse group of students that are homeless or come from poverty stricken homes. Many days it is a struggle for them to get to school on time and have their own supplies that are needed to learn. My priority is to make sure that their health, well-being and learning needs are taken care of. Although these students experience a lot of trauma, they love school and want to learn. We just need the supplies and resources to help make it happen.
My Project
The resources that I am requesting are to be used to encourage my students to use the 4 C's identified as key 21st century skills – Creativity, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Communication. The coding and building kits will provide students the opportunities to fail and try again in a safe environment. These STEAM activities are creative and adaptable, making it accessible to children of all levels of ability. Even within one team, various ability levels can work and learn together.
STEAM activities are an excellent way of reducing classroom anxiety and stress.
We have a large class of students and keeping students calm and free of anxiety helps them to focus and learn. These different building activities will help students become more engaged and apply concepts in a deeper, more thorough way, leading to a greater understanding of the concepts. We will have stations set up that allow students to explore, create and apply their critical thinking.
It is our goal to make school a safe, fun and learning environment that encourages students to work hard and apply themselves every single day.
