Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from low income families, and most of them come from families that do not speak English.
Every child in my room has the desire to learn.
My school is in the process of becoming a STEAM school. STEAM schools focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.
Being ESL students from low income families, what they really need are opportunities to work together with things they can manipulate while stimulating their minds to work in unique and creative ways.
My Project
G. Elementary is excited to announce that we are becoming G. Entrepreneurial STEAM Magnet Elementary School!
STEAM is a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
We want to focus on these topics while exploring how we can become entrepreneurs leading the way in the future.
Because of this recent change, we now have the opportunity to incorporate exciting things such as coding games and different math and science manipulatives.
I have added OSMO games that connect to our classroom iPad, as well as code able robots and create your own game coding games. These allow the students to practice their coding skills for future engineering careers such as coding games or robots.
I have also requested a couple of extra options to allow the students to be able to work all around the room in groups, to work on their collaboration skills while working on business plans, invention ideas, and other group projects.
Finally, I added some fun books that will share about famous scientists, mathematicians, and engineers - especially women and POC, to help my students see themselves in these careers, and help instill a love of STEAM topics in my students who don't normally have these opportunities!
Watch for us, because our students will be the leaders of tomorrow!
