Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is made up of 19 amazing learners. They come to class ready to learn despite the obstacles they face prior to stepping foot in the classroom. We are a Title I school and almost all of my students are English Language Learners. My students love coming to school because I make learning fun.
My students work hard each and every day but unfortunately, they need supplies that our school budget does not supply.
This includes special science equipment.
My Project
At STEAM night, students will have the opportunity to show their parents some investigations that we will have learned about in the classroom.
Ron's Ramp Adventure comes with Ron, an adorable skateboarding armadillo that teaches students all about force and motion.
Students will use Ron to investigate many things such as testing to see how far Ron will move on different ramp surfaces (wood, felt, carpet, etc.) Students will plan and conduct an investigation, measure, and collect and analyze their data.
The Helicopter Hangtime Exploration will be a hit! Students will design, build, and test their own helicopters.
Finally, students will explore how sound is made by using tuning forks.
Students will be able to share and demonstrate their knowledge and show their parents what they have been learning. This STEAM night will allow parents to have discussions with their children about science. I'm also planning on making a handout for this event with other STEAM activities for families to try at home. These materials will definitely benefit my students and will help strengthen the home-school partnership.
