I am a Transitional Kindergarten teacher in a low socio-economic area of Fremont. We are a very diverse district. The demographics are 50% Latino, 30% Indian and 20% Asian. Many students are on free or reduced-price lunch.
My students are AMAZING!
They rise to any expectation you set in front of them regardless of their ability and skill level.
A good percentage of my class are students who are learning English as a second language. This is a huge challenge for them but they deal with this obstacle with grace and power, full steam ahead with their learning. This year is the first school experience for many of my students so I like to provide as many different types of learning resources to reach all modalities of learning. Many of my students also face another challenge which is their home lives are challenging. My families are doing their best but can't provide the resources that this technological world offers. Again, this does not stop my students from wanting to learn. I feel lucky to be surrounded by 24 little people daily whose attitudes are infectious.
My Project
This Chromebook will give students the opportunity in our STEAM center to make, edit and view stop motion videos using Legos and Playmobil characters.
Students learn best by creating!
This center will provide them the opportunity to create, share and view what they created. Students will share movies with their families during a MGM (makers gonna make) Premiere show.
This will be an engaging way for students to collaborate, learn, plan and problem solve. Stop motion video making gives students the opportunity for self expression in addition to being in charge of their own learning outcomes. The learning opportunities that come with stop motion are endless.
