My students need stem project supplies, such as glue, vinegar, dish soap, glitter, along with other common items, so that they can demonstrate their ingenuity for their parents at a family STEAM night.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are smart, talented, and have an insasiable desire to learn. Many of our students come from socio-economically disadvantaged households. These homes are full of love and parents who want the best for their children, but they are often lacking the means to provide enriched opportunities for them, whether financially or academically.
My students are curious, innovative, and creative.
They love hands-on activities and projects that allow for exploration and invention. Our school vision is to be an exemplary neighborhood school that promotes academic excellence, serves the community, and empowers students to discover their strengths.
My Project
We are not preparing kids for the same type of society that we were prepared for. We are preparing kids for jobs that have not even been created yet. These jobs will require ingenuity, problem solving, and innovation. Our students are naturally inquisitive and enjoy hands-on activities that allow them to be creative and inventive. Serving our community by bringing families together is an important piece of building relationships for the sake of our children.
As we build relationships with the families of our students, we create the "village" that our children need to support their learning process.
A family STEAM night allows for students to be the facilitators of their parents learning while bridging the gap between school and home. Families step away from busy schedules, tv programming, or sometimes households that are disconnected, to come together in a fun learning environment. Family nights are one of the most powerful tools we can use to inspire our students and families.
