My 19 Kindergarten students come from a variety of different backgrounds, they are ALL eager to learn. We are constantly learning from one another. Our classroom is a community where each person is valued and respected making it a safe learning space for each mind to grow and develop.
My students are creative, energetic, and motivated individuals.
Each of them brings their own set of unique needs with them to school every day, and it is my goal and desire to meet each of those needs. This year I will be working to get students engaged with hands-on, STEAM inspired learning experiences in the classroom!
This project will allow hands-on opportunities to challenge my students' thinking, group cooperation and problem-solving skills with age appropriate STEAM activities. STEAM represents the combination of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Hands-on play and problem solving with different materials will allow them to learn and extend their knowledge and creative thinking skills.
My students will collaborate, communicate and use critical thinking skills to build, create and explore in small groups.
During STEAM time in our classroom students will be able to work in small cooperative groups to engage in hands-on problem solving. The Design & Build Engineering Centers will use task cards to challenge the students to create different bridges, houses, and vehicles. Botley- The Coding Robots will introduce the students to coding and technology. The kits that accompany Botley will allow for challenges and planned coding for Botley to complete designed tasks. The Q-BA Maze 2.0 Kits offer quality colorful cubes for building spectacular designs plus steel marbles allowing for live demonstrations of probability, physics and art, all in one! KEVA Brain Builders Junior will challenge the students to take a 2D diagram and turn it into a 3D structure.
I know my students will love creating, collaborating, problem solving and building as they develop the important character traits of fairness, respect, and perseverance.
